Frequently asked questions

Where do you see clients?

I am currently accepting new clients in Fort Worth, Texas for in-person sessions. I can see virtual clients anywhere in the great state of Texas! I use SimplePractice's HIPAA compliant telehealth platform for virtual sessions. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you might have! If you feel ready, you can also book an appointment now!

What is your rate?

My rate is currently $65/session for both virtual sessions and in-person sessions. I keep a limited number of spots in my schedule to offer sliding scale rates. When possible, I will work with you to find a way for your therapy to be financially affordable. Please reach out to me to discuss sliding scale options.

What if I cannot make it to my session or I am sick?

I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you are unable to attend a session, please notify me at least 24 hours in advance. If you do not cancel and/or do not show up for your session, you will still be charged the full session fee. It is possible to change your session to a virtual session instead, or if the therapist has availability to reschedule within the same week, which is up to the discretion of the counselor.

How do I contact you?

Text is best! You can text me at 817-518-7097. If you do call me, please know that I will only answer the phone if I am in a private setting. You can email me too, at mkayla@one80counseling.com. I will respond within my normal business hours. These forms of contact are not for crisis situations. If you are in a crisis, please contact 911, 988, or go to your nearest emergency room.

How do I schedule a session?

Intakes are required at the beginning of therapy services so I can get a feel for what is bringing you to counseling, as well as ensuring that you and I are a good fit. Intakes are free and are generally around 20-30 minutes. You can book now through my online client portal or you can reach out to me to book an intake. If we both choose to move forward with counseling services, we will get you set up for regularly scheduled appointments. Clients can choose from weekly or biweekly appointments. Each session is 50 minutes. I offer virtual counseling sessions on Wednesdays and Thursdays, as well as in-person appointments on Saturdays and Sundays in Fort Worth, Texas.

What can I expect from therapy?

Starting therapy can be nerve-wracking. Having some expectations in mind is super helpful. To start, know that you are welcome here! You are not a burden on me, nor are you dumping your problems. Therapy is safe space for you to explore, process, and find support. It is my job to provide that space for you! Next, know that there will be times therapy is uncomfortable or hard. We are doing hard emotional, mental, verbal, and even sometimes physical work (don't worry, I am not going to make you workout... think breathing exercises!). It can be a lot, but it is so worth the work. Lastly, expect to make progress over time. The work we do is gradual. Unfortunately, I can't wave a magic wand and cure your struggles, but I can support you, empathize with you, and overall give you the time and space necessary to grow.

How soon should I get there?

Please try to arrive 5 minutes before your session, but no sooner than 15 minutes before your scheduled session time. Your session will not start earlier than your scheduled appointment time. Please note before scheduling an in-person session that my office is located in a historical building and does not have handicap access. My office is located on the second floor, which will require you to go upstairs.

Can I leave while my child is in therapy?

This is not allowed for children 14 and younger. In general, we advise against leaving your child as having a parent involved, even for a brief check-in, can be beneficial to the child's therapy journey.

What do I do if I am running late to my session?

Text your therapist and let them know that you are late! Per One Eighty Counseling policy, if you are more than 10 minutes late to your session, your session will be forfeited and you will still be charged the full session fee. Exceptions can be made at the discretion of the counselor. If an exception is made, your session will still end at the regularly scheduled time.
